Using technology in the classroom seem to motivate students to actively engage in the curriculum. This generation of students are technologically advanced. The early exposure to cyberspace has produced, in my opinion a generation of students that are competent in this environment. After teaching in a traditional environment for the past eleven years, I obtained a teaching position at a virtual school. I was excited to begin the new school year in a new environment. I had very little training with the program. I'm learning day-to-day and feeling more competetent with my instruction.

I find your new position intriguing,Julie, and am anxious to follow your experience. What level are you teaching? Do you meet students face-to-face at any point? I love the idea of sitting with tousled hair and hot coffee while working (as I am now!), but I can't imagine enjoying teaching without the very real connections and contacts I have with my students. Their smiles and hugs give me reason to get up each morning.

How interesting...Is it a lot like what we are doing by taking college courses online? What extra steps do you have to take to make sure the integrity of the program isn't compromised with things like cheating and plagiarism? How did you get involved with virtual teaching? Oh the questions could go on and on, but I will stop there and let you catch your breath...
ReplyDeleteI had the opportunity to be the director of our cyber charter school many years ago. Our IU decided to get on the bandwagon since many other districts and IU's were doing this and the districts were losing money to the charter schools. I turned it down because I did not like what the program was. How could I put my heart and soul into something I did not believe in that someone picked who has little to no education background? How is the curriculum/program set up for you? Do you ever get the chance to see the kids? Do they work at their school and through the computer? I have so many stories to let you know about from the girl that they hired to do this at my IU. What a first year that was.You will have so much fun. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThis blog would be a great start to getting your kids thinking about other things....hmmm....my wheels are turning for you...are yours? I bet they are!
