Monitoring my Game Plan

In monitoring the progress of my game plan I need to ensure that I stay focused on the two indicators that I chose which are facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity and engaging in professional growth.
At this stage I and finding information on the internet and my school district’s website exploring sites that may help me to accomplish my game plan. I don’t see it necessary to make any modifications at this time until I begin the new school year using the game plan with my classes.
I have been able to acquire some collaborating tool software that was approved my administrators at my school to use with my students in the upcoming school year.
I was also able to schedule a workshop for training in technology on how to use a SMART board that was offered to me by my principal. Our school will be adopting SMART boards this year to use in our class and I was selected to participate in the workshop.
The most important thing that I have learned so far about my game plan is that it will take dedication and commitment in order to accomplish my goals.
I will continue to engage in other training that offer activities that can help me facilitate the standards used in the district and the national education technology standards to help me become successful using technology in the classroom.

  1. Smartboards, when you first start using them may seem frustrating because there's a lot to do before class, but you will end up loving it! They are so useful and interactive!

Before you decide you need to put together lessons on your own, always check the web! Most teachers will post their lessons online. I will have to search for that site (I use a Starboard now and not a Smartboard). But always look for premade lessons. This will help cut down on prep time.

There is one website that I'd like to pass on. I use it whenever we should have "downtime," which didn't happen much this year. (freerice.com) Please check this out if you haven't heard of it before. It's a great educational website. Again, I only use it when we have downtime and students would take turns running the board. See what you think!

  2. Julie,

That is really cool that you are getting SMART boards for your school. I envy you! It sounds like you are truly working on accomplishing your goals and well on your way to proficiency. Though I do not have extensive knowledge on SMART boards, I do know that they are a great way to motivate and engage students. In addition, you will find that using a SMART board will improve how you present content material and assess student learning.

  3. Julie,
How wonderful that you are able to get these things together so well. I applaud your efforts to get the ball rolling with your staff development. As Valerie mentioned there are already some great lessons created for Smartboards that you can use. It is much easier at the beginning than trying to create it on your own. Like Val mentions....it makes it better to already have premade lessons.
I know many teachers that will also be jealous of you for having this technology.
You mentioned that you want to be involved in other training activities...would you ever consider actually being one of those trainers? I think you could do it. Teachers love when other teachers are able to tell them how they use it and share the outcomes from their classroom. It makes a big difference in how professional development is looked at. Good luck with the next steps.

  4. Valerie, thank you for the website. I will be doing training on the Smartboard and I hope to be able to learn enough to start the school year.

  5. Marilyn, thank you for your comments, I try working hard at anything that can help me improve my teaching strategie to enhance student learning. I will take Valeries advice and look up the pre-made lesson to begin using the Smart board.

  6. I can tell that you really do work hard. There is so much to do and it seems as if time is not on our side!! My colleague just bought a book of Smartboard lessons. Here is the one she bought...

Take a look at these other ones...

I think that you can really do a lot with them especially if they come with CD's to use!
